Formula
CBSE: CGPA = percentage ÷ 9.5Simple: CGPA = percentage ÷ 10Custom: CGPA = percentage ÷ multiplier + offset
- Uses the same multiplier and offset as the CGPA → percentage rule.
Undo the multiplication used to turn CGPA into a percentage.
Worked example
80.75% with the CBSE rule
- Percentage
- 80.75 %
- Conversion method
- CBSE: CGPA = percentage ÷ 9.5
CGPA (10-point scale)
8.50
How it works
If a board converts CGPA to a percentage by multiplying by 9.5, dividing by 9.5 gets back: 80.75% ÷ 9.5 = 8.5. An exact percentage doesn't always map to a CGPA that your institution would actually award, since real CGPAs come from grade points, not from percentages, so treat the result as an equivalent rather than an official grade.
Admission forms that ask for a CGPA when you only have a percentage usually say which rule to use; use that one. See CGPA to Percentage Calculator for the forward conversion and its caveats, and CGPA Calculator to compute a CGPA from semester grades.
Assumptions and limits
- 10-point scale only.
- Shows an equivalent value — official CGPA comes from your institution's grade points.
