Formula
net score = correct × marks per correct − wrong × penalty per wrong
- Unattempted questions score zero.
- accuracy = correct ÷ (correct + wrong)
Add the marks you earned and subtract the penalty.
Worked example
60 right, 20 wrong, +1 / −0.25
- Total questions
- 100
- Correct answers
- 60
- Wrong answers
- 20
- Marks per correct answer
- 1
- Marks lost per wrong answer
- 0.25
Net score
55
Maximum marks: 100
Score as a percentage: 55%
Accuracy (correct ÷ attempted): 75%
How it works
With +1 for a correct answer and −0.25 for a wrong one, 60 correct and 20 wrong out of 100 questions gives 60 − 5 = 55. Accuracy is 60 out of the 80 you attempted, or 75%. Those two numbers together tell you whether guessing is paying off: a wrong answer costs a quarter of what a right one earns, so a guess is worth it only if you are more than 20% likely to be right.
Marking schemes differ by paper, so type your own. For the verified scheme of a specific exam see the year-specific SSC CGL Tier 1 Score Calculator and SSC CHSL Tier 1 Score Calculator. To turn a score into a percentage use Marks Percentage Calculator.
Assumptions and limits
- The same scheme applies to every question.
- No sectional cut-offs or normalisation are modelled.
