Formula
annual pay = hourly rate × hours per week × paid weekshourly rate = annual salary ÷ (hours per week × paid weeks)
- paid weeks = weeks per year − unpaid weeks off
Multiply the rate by the hours you're paid for in a year.
Worked example
25 an hour, full time
- Convert
- Hourly rate → salary
- Hourly rate
- 25
- Hours per week
- 40
- Weeks per year
- 52
Annual pay
52,000.00
Hourly: 25.00
Daily (5-day week): 200.00
Weekly: 1,000.00
How it works
At 25 an hour for 40 hours a week over 52 weeks you earn 25 × 40 × 52 = 52,000 a year, about 4,333 a month. Paid holidays and paid leave are still paid weeks, so only count weeks you aren't paid at all as “weeks off”.
Run it backwards to find the hourly equivalent of a salary offer: 104,000 over 2,080 hours is 50 an hour. Monthly pay here is simply the annual figure divided by 12. Gross pay only — for a tax estimate in India see CTC to Take-Home Salary Calculator (India); to compare offers see Salary Comparison Calculator.
Assumptions and limits
- Overtime and different rates for different hours aren't modelled.
An estimateSalary results depend on your employer, contract, region and tax position, so treat them as an estimate rather than a promise of what you will be paid.
